Cotopaxi Fuego Down Hooded Jacket Review

I took the Cotopaxi Fuego Down Hooded Jacket on my recent trek of the GR 131 and was very pleased with the quality and performance of the jacket. Initially, upon receiving it in the mail, I was worried that it would be too bulky or heavy to carry, as the down was so full and cushy. However, as soon as I pre-packed it, I was pleasantly surprised!

Teva Aventrail R2T Sandal Review

I took the Teva Aventrail R2T Sandals on my recent hike of the GR 131 across the Canary Islands and found them to be a fantastic shoe for such a hot trail. We hiked for four weeks across these islands, and while I had normal trail running sneakers with me as well, I found myself in the Aventrail R2Ts more than I expected!

LEKI Makalu FX Carbon Review

The LEKI Makalu FX Carbon poles are my new favorite addition to my kit. I took them on the Laugavegur Trail last summer, and they held up better than I could have even hoped. The trail was windy and tough, but the poles were tougher. Sorry to sound cheesy, but it was true! Even on the wild river crossings, they kept me steady. Even though they are super light, I could actually trust them and put my weight on them without fearing that they would snap.

deuter Aircontact Core 45+10 SL Review

The deuter Aircontact Core 45+10 SL is the ultimate trekking pack for long-distance, tough-weather hikes. I took this bag on the Laugavegur Trail last summer and it really held its own as we experienced all of the weather options Iceland can throw at trekkers in August.

Vaude Skomer Hiking SC Jacket Review

I took the Vaude Skomer Hiking SC Jacket on a hiking trip to Luxembourg last May. With a small group of friends, we decided to combine the Lee Trail and Mullerthal Trilogy in 7 days, hiking from two base camps (summing up to 200+km). Hiking from these basecamps allowed us to bring just the essentials on the trail, wearing only a daypack for each section. Since we walked long days, we got a bit of everything in terms of temperature.

How three Aussie hikers solved the trail nutrition problem

Trail food is a special kind of chaos. Oats for breakfast, tuna for lunch, something beige, salty, and barely dissolved in water for dinner. Most of us call it fuel and just get on with it. Ultimately, when you’re counting ounces, and carrying it for miles, flavor is optional, and nutrients are negotiable.

Deuter Futura 23 Review

The Futura 23 is one of those packs that is super comfortable the second you put it on. It’s supportive, simple, and doesn’t need adjusting every five minutes. I liked how it felt on trail, especially when the weather wasn’t great, and I’d bring it again for hut trips or long mountain days where I don’t want to carry extra weight but still want a supportive carry. If you’re looking for a pack that’s built for adventure but is small and light, this is it.

3 Best Hiking Hotels in South Tyrol

It is no secret that some of the most popular hiking in Europe is in South Tyrol. Home to the Dolomites, this region is famous for its beautiful scenery, delicious food, and warm people. But you’re only on trail for half the day! The other half of the day is spent at your hotel, so it’s important to stay somewhere that makes your hiking holiday special. So, these are some of the best hotels for hiking in the Dolomites and beyond.

MSR Hubba NX Solo Review

On long-distance hikes, each gram counts. Therefore, the ´big three´ (shelter, backpack, and sleeping system) can be real game changers. Nevertheless, there is a fine line between weight and comfort. When it came to my shelter, I was looking for a reliable, lightweight, and free-standing tent. I wanted to be able to set it up quickly and easily, regardless of the surface. Over the last years I've tested many different tents. One of my all-time favorites that I use to take for my solo multiday hikes is the MSR Hubba NX.

Therm-a-Rest Vesper 20F/-6C Quilt Review

I’m not someone who usually jumps on trends. When quilts started showing up more on the trail, I wasn’t sold. They looked too minimal and too lightweight to do the job. But I brought the Therm-a-Rest Vesper quilt on the Transcaucasian Trail this past summer, where we had 80+ days of hiking and camping across Georgia and Armenia, and came out the other side a convert.
