Pindos Horse Shoe Trail

In the north-west of Greece, one can find the Pindos Mountains, one of the best-kept secrets in the hiking world. Here, you’ll see the Vikos Gorge, with a depth of 1600 meters, which can be found in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s deepest gorge. There are monasteries that you can visit, such as the Agias Paraskevis, and several bridges typical of this region.

GR 131 Tenerife

The GR 131 on Tenerife is one of the most beautiful ways to see this popular Canary Island. The trail takes you through ancient pine forests, and then up to the high desert with views of El Teide, the island’s active volcano, before taking you down near the coast on trails in tropical ravines.

Karhunkierros

The Karhunkierros is known as the most famous trail of Finland, and for good reason. The trail follows roughly the Savinajoki, Oulankajoki, and Kitkajoki rivers with their spectacular rapids and canyons. Combined with pristine forests, panoramic views, and some lakes, the trail has an impressive variety of scenery as you go. Some sections have total silence: soft forest floor, no human-made sounds, no birds, nothing. Excellent infrastructure makes the trail a pleasure to hike: open wilderness huts, campsites, boardwalks, nine swingbridges, and clear trail markers.

Hayduke Trail

The Hayduke Trail is an 800-mile route meandering through Utah and the Grand Canyon in Arizona. The trail is meant to encourage exploration of Utah’s wonders. It does not run in a straight line, but rather connects some of Utah’s most awe-inspiring and remote places, while offering you the opportunity to visit all five of Utah’s National Parks along the way, with a long detour through the Grand Canyon included.

There are over 4,000 miles of coastal walking in the UK, with the new King Charles III England Coast Path (2,700 miles) opening in 2026, connecting with the Wales Coast Path (870 miles), and many diverse routes in Scotland. There has never been a better time to explore the UK’s coastal edges; it is a boundary where the magic happens. And through my many walks in the region, I’ve learned to travel light, both in my tangible possessions and in my intangible expectations.

Cammino dei Borghi Silenti

The Cammino dei Borghi Silenti, or Walk of the Silent Villages, is a circular hike through the countryside and 13 tiny villages and hamlets in Umbria, the green heart of Italy. As its name already suggests, expect to find peace and tranquility hiking the hilly countryside and strolling the enchanting villages that date back to medieval times. Some of these villages date as far back as the 10th century. Many still have city walls; there’s history to be found in every alley, church, square, and tower.

Strada delle 52 Gallerie

This historical “Hike of the 52 tunnels” is a living testimony to the incredible engineering power of Italian soldiers in World War I. This man-made military mule path, 6555 meters (4 mi) long and including 52 tunnels, was cut into the steep rocks on the south side of Monte Pasubio by Italian soldiers in 1917. The aim was to avoid using the supply road on the north side of the mountain, which was within shooting distance of the enemy, the Austrian-Hungarian army located on the other side of the valley. It took only 9 months to complete.
