The WildSoajo trail is a mountain shepherds’ traverse in northern Portugal’s Soajo mountain region. Throughout the trek, you will be surrounded by an immense granite massif, peaks over a thousand meters high, centuries-old oak forests, and crystal-clear waterfalls. This land of shepherds, the freedom of Garrano horses, wild wolves, and centuries-old traditions of mountain living will be the setting for a great adventure.
Based on the original GR1 Travessia das Serras da Peneda e Soajo in the area, the WildSoajo is a revitalization of the trail that was abandoned by the municipality in order to create the newer GR50 Grande Rota Peneda-Gerês in the park. This trail is a great option for a quiet trek through the region, where you can find the old way of living and experience the mountains of Northern Portugal, just on the border with Spain’s Galicia region.
