Henk-Jan was born in the Netherlands and has been hiking from a young age. He walks a lot in the Netherlands, including day and long-distance walks. A few times a year he walks for a long weekend with friends. For a couple of years, he walked long distances in Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium. In 2024 he walked the S;t Olavsleden in Sweden.
