Testing the LOWA ATR Fortux GTX Ws

To thoroughly assess the LOWA ATR Fortux GTX Ws, I’ve tested the shoe in a few environments and conditions, including muddy trails in Madeira, rocky snowfields in the Dolomites, and even road running and city walking. This combo of terrains helped me to have a comprehensive idea of the shoe’s performance, comfort, and durability. I paid close attention to how the shoe handled different loads and how it adapted to changes in weather, from dry, sunny days to wet and muddy conditions. The shoe’s fit, stability, and grip were critical factors, along with the overall comfort during extended use. I also examined the durability of the materials and construction, looking for any signs of wear and tear after repeated use. And after 3 months of non-stop use, the shoes held up remarkably well.

One of the places I tested the shoes was on a snowy hut-to-hut tour in the Dolomites, and I can confidently say that these shoes exceeded my expectations in several areas. One of the standout features was their exceptional grip. The LOWA Multi Trac outsole gave me reliable traction on the often slippery trails, giving me confidence on both rocky and muddy terrains. Additionally, the durability of the shoes was impressive, as they performed remarkably well even in the snowy conditions, maintaining their comfort throughout the hike.

Another highlight was how quickly the Fortux GTX dried after river crossings. Any moisture was quickly wicked away, thanks to their breathable GORE-TEX membrane. This fast-drying capability significantly improved my comfort during the hike. It was great to put on dry shoes each morning!
