Injinji Midweight Mini-Crew Review

GearHiking socks

Socks don’t usually get much attention, but when you’re putting in long days on rough trails, they matter. I brought the Injinji Midweight Mini-Crew on the GR221 in Mallorca, mostly to see how they’d hold up under heat and loose stone. They did well, and I ended up wearing them more often than I’d initially planned.

I brought these socks, along with my more traditional socks, on the GR221. While I’d planned to wear them for a day or two, they ended up on my feet almost every day because of the cushioning they have. I also was having issues with a blister forming on one of my toes, but when I wore these, the hot spot disappeared, and I was able to move comfortably again. The shoes I’d worn on the trail had a narrower toe box, so these were key to protecting my toes from being too squished. In my eyes, having a pair of these as backup (or as your main sock!) will always be helpful.

Testing the Midweight Mini-Crew

Mallorca’s GR221 doesn’t look too intense on a map, but it can wear you down at points. It’s rocky and uneven almost the whole way. So, honestly, what made these socks stand out was how little I noticed them. The cushioning helped take the edge off, especially on long descents, but they didn’t feel heavy or overbuilt.

They handled the heat. My feet stayed dry and comfortable, even during long days in the sun. The lower cut around the ankle was a good call, as it gave me enough coverage to avoid rubbing, but didn’t hold in heat like higher socks usually do.

The toe-sleeve design isn’t for everyone, but for me, it works. It keeps my toes from rubbing together, and I didn’t deal with any of the usual hotspots I sometimes get on dry trails. Once they were on, I didn’t think about them again.

They also held their shape. I rinsed them a few times along the way, and they dried fast. No sagging, no bunching, no slipping. They stayed solid day after day.

Injinji has focused on toe socks from the beginning. The California-based company was founded in 1999 to change the running sock game and found so much success that they expanded to other sports as well. Now, they make socks for running, hiking, and other endurance use—basically anywhere blisters can ruin your day. Instead of overcomplicating things, they focus on fit, moisture control, and keeping friction low. It’s a simple formula, and it works.

They use synthetic blends that dry quickly and last longer than most wool-based socks. It’s clear they’re building products for real use, not just to hit a trend.

About the Midweight Mini-Crew

The Midweight Mini-Crew sits just above the ankle, which I found ideal for warm-weather hikes. The midweight cushioning was enough to be noticeable on rough terrain, but not so thick that it got in the way. The five-toe construction helps reduce friction and gives you a bit more flexibility in how your foot moves over uneven ground.

The double cuff also kept them from slipping. And even after multiple wears and washes, they kept their shape– the fabric didn’t stretch out or wear thin.

Conclusion

The Injinji Midweight Mini-Crew did what I needed it to do. On hot, rocky trails, it kept my feet comfortable and blister-free. It’s not a sock I’d reach for in winter, and it won’t change your life—but it gets the job done, and that’s enough. If you hike in warm, dry weather and want something that holds up under long days, this one is worth considering.
